Following Brexit and the closing of borders during the pandemic, the block placed on economic immigration is now starting to bite. The UK is experiencing a shortage of low and unskilled labour as restrictions are eased and output increased.
The current shortage of LGV drivers is well documented thanks to coverage by national media, however, the gap between supply and demand is just as pressing in other in other sectors. The need for Warehouse Operatives, Pickers, Packers, Assemblers and Machine Operators has forced businesses to increase rates of pay in order to retain staff during this volatile period. Many of our clients are affected by this situation, but what can they do?
Widening the net
Placing People First is more than just our mantra; it’s what we live by every day. In times of need, we are first call for many businesses, which is why our recruitment team is working flat out to source the right people, right now. We’ve increased advertising spend within our specialist sectors and strategically placed banners in areas of real need for certain clients. We also offer referral and retention bonuses.
There is no quick fix to this current situation, but by thinking a little differently we are able to find and in many cases train the right people so that our clients can meet their obligations. We will always go the extras mile for our clients and candidates.
Onsite solutions
During these uncertain times our Onsite Solutions service is proving to be very beneficial to businesses relying on unskilled labour. We place a member of our team in our client’s building to work alongside their teams to provide a complete Temporary Workforce Solution.
We don’t believe in a one-size fits all approach; instead, we work closely with clients to design a bespoke package that meets their individual needs.
